Rules
WKF kumite rules for 18-34 years old Open Weight Advanced Kumite. Modified WKF rules (USA-NKF rules) for all other divisions. Participants in these other divisions may use headgear, faceshields, and chest protectors which are optional. (Open face white foam head protectors and headgear with face shields are allowed but not required.) These participants may also use white or red & blue sparring equipment.
Katas will be performed side by side with decision by flags. Beginner, Novice and Intermediate competitors may perform the same kata with Advanced athletes required to have at least 2 alternating kata.

Specially Challenged Divisions
Run by Sensei Jeff Kohn, Chairman of US Disabled Karate. This is a great opportunity for athletes with physical or cognitive disabilities to compete in a national karate tournament. These divisions will be grouped based on disability, ages and rank of participants in kata and kobudo, and will include both children and adults. Seminars
For sensei, coaches, and athletes --- 2X WKF World Champion Sensei George Kotaka will be giving a two hour kumite seminar on Saturday, October 13th, from 11-1pm at the competition site in Beardsley Gym, ETHS (1600 Dodge Ave, Evanston). There is a $50 registration fee for this clinic.

For referees --- Sensei Alex Miladi is conducting a referee certification course on kata and kumite on Saturday October 13th from 8am - 12pm at the host hotel, Hotel Orrington/Evanston. The practical evaluation will be done on Saturday and Sunday at the the tournament. $100 registration fee includes referee licensing fees
